How do we assign reading bands at Witton?

Pupils are assessed three times a year using the NGRT (New Group Reading Test). This provides each child with a reading age, which may differ from their chronological age, and is linked to a colour band. Pupils are encouraged to always have a banded reading book that is appropriate for their level, alongside a book of their own choice for reading for pleasure. To support this, pupils have regular opportunities to change their books—before school, at lunchtime, and during library lessons within English.
