Reading Homework

Welcome to Our Reading Page

We’re excited to partner with you in helping your child develop a lifelong love of reading. This page is designed to provide you with resources and guidance to support your child’s reading journey at home.

As part of their weekly homework, pupils are expected to read for 75 minutes per week (5 sessions of 15 minutes)

Pupils should record their reading in the reading diaries and these are checked by teachers every Friday morning, during reading.

What should my child be reading?

At home, we encourage pupils to read a wide range of texts to help develop their fluency, vocabulary and enjoyment of reading. This may include novels, short stories, newspapers, magazines, comics, graphic novels, non-fiction books, biographies, websites, blogs or information texts linked to their interests. Alongside their home reading choices, all pupils will have access to books from our school library. These include a banded reading book, chosen at an appropriate level to support reading development, and a reading for pleasure book, selected to foster a lifelong love of reading and encourage pupils to explore new authors, genres and interests.
