L.O: To formulate predictions and opinions from a text
1.Read the blurb, then answer some of the discussion questions that follow. You can either write them down or discuss with someone else.
2.Follow the link and listen to the prologue or you may prefer to read the prologue (a copy is attached below).
3.Discuss or write down some ideas from the blurb or prologue, there are some suggested questions to start you off.

1.Watch Russell Kane read extract 1 from Oliver Twist or you might prefer to read the extract.
2.Complete Activity 1 where you will consider key questions and the language choices of the author.
L.O: To summarise events from an extract
1.Watch Russell Kane read extract 2 from Oliver Twist or you might prefer to read the extract.
2.Complete Activity 2: List four things from the extract that the boys do, followed by writing a summary of the events. See a model of a summary if you need some inspiration.
L.O: To make inferences using justification from the text
We are going to continue with Private Peaceful, Chapter 2 ‘Twenty to Eleven’
1.Re-watch or re-read parts of the book if you need.
2.Based on your knowledge of the text answer some VIPER based questions.
L.O: To read critically, explaining how characters change
1.Read or listen to ‘Nearly Quarter Past Eleven’
2.Complete a character analysis which focusses on Big Joe
