Welcome to 5GH's class page.
This week we have been really enjoying reading our new class book, Head Kid. So far it has been very funny! We have continued to research and survey Droitwich High Street as we look to recommend to the council what could be improved in our local area. In Science, we have carried on our learning about space and the moon, creating some fantastic models of the orbit of our planet. Maths has brought a new topic of Area and Perimeter for us to be practicing and in English we have started to write great character descriptions all about The White Witch from The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
Don't forget we have PE on Mondays and Thursdays so you'll need to wear your PE kit to school on those days.
This Friday 11th December is 'Christmas at Witton' day. Remember to wear your best Christmas jumper on top of your usual school uniform.
Now that you are in year 5, we want to increase your independent learning to benefit you. Your homework will be given out every Wednesday and you will have until the following Tuesday to complete your tasks. It will consist of:
- 15 minutes of reading, 5 days a week (record all reading in your reading records)
- Spellings (issued on Tuesday and tested on Monday), practice twice a week for 15mins each.
- MyMaths two pieces per week (approx 20mins each)
- Maths fluency (eg times tables) twice per week approx 15 mins each.
- Grammar task (generally from a work book) approx 30mins.
This will now be set by your English and Maths teachers. You can find a reminder of your homework on e-praise and on your own teacher's set homework tab.
We have been dropping meteors into sand and investigating whether or not different dropping heights create bigger craters. It took efficient group work and accurate measuring skills.
