Welcome to 5GH's class page.
This week we have reached an exciting point in our class book 'Wonder'. Will August and Jack Will become friends again after their big fall out?
In History, we have been exploring what Anglo-Saxon settlements looked like and where they were built. We have even explored how certain places inherited their names.
In Computing, we are exploring how to stay safe online and ensure we understand all the dangers the internet can pose.
Don't forget we have PE on Mondays and Thursdays so you'll need to wear your PE kit to school on those days.
This Friday (11th September), we are having a day off timetable in school to complete some team building challenges! Please make sure you are wearing sportswear and bring something warm as we will be outside all day if it is dry.
Now that you are in year 5, we want to increase your independent learning to benefit you. Your homework will be given out every Wednesday and you will have until the following Tuesday to complete your tasks. It will consist of:
- 15 minutes of reading, 5 days a week (record all reading in your reading records)
- Spellings (issued on Tuesday and tested on Monday), practice twice a week for 15mins each.
- MyMaths two pieces per week (approx 20mins each)
- Maths fluency (eg times tables) twice per week approx 15 mins each.
- Grammar task (generally from a work book) approx 30mins.
This will now be set by your English and Maths teachers. You can find a reminder of your homework on e-praise and on your own teacher's set homework tab.
What are we reading?
We are currently enjoying reading the book Wonder, all about a boy called August who has facial disfigurements and is experiencing going to school for the first time. We are really enjoying discussing all the social/emotional sides to the story in class and have already become more empathetic through our discussions!
Maybe you want to enjoy watching the film at home with your family?
